Botmuyl - Botulistum (Early 2000)

This is a Dutch Black Metal Band, The interview Was Conducted With The Vocalist Botmuyl In early 2000

1.) A brief synopsis of the projects history/contributing members/release history
Botulistum was formed by me and Nachtraaf in the beginning of ’98. We recorded a very blasphemic raw assault in the form of a promo called "Hongerend Vuur". It was a bit in the vein of Von we think. Underground-maniacs were very enthousiastic about it. In ‘98/’99 we recorded a full-length demo called "Wederopstanding Der Veenlijken" which is strictly limited to 50 copies. It is way more sick and insane and original than our promo. A very own style aswell, which we call Peat Metal. Only real insane dedicated sick fuckers like this one, it’s pure horrifying sickness! Now we are working on our 2nd full-length and probably our last one aswell, called "Lijkenoogst". It’ll be even more original, sick and agressive than "Wederopstanding", and it’ll be limited to 100 cult copies. It’s going to be our masterpiece of trendcrushing Peat Metal, we probably can’t produce a better demo after that one so that’s why we’ll quit. I’ll release a "Peatest Hits" tape after that one, which will contain our sickest songs and will not be limited, so everyone interested can always contact me for it. Nachtraaf plays the guitars and programs the drums, I abuse the one-snaired violin so now and then, and also scream my hysteria in the rotten microphone.

2.) Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music.
We HATE trends and melodic shit and therefor we produce sickness that only worthy true maniacs will appreciate! Posers hate our music so that’s great! We’re only for the elite! Our inspiration comes out of creative sick minds, with sense for originality.

3.) Some specifics on your sound.
Our sound is very underground, but still listenable, you can hear all the instruments. Filthy guitars supported by infernal drumprogramming make our music and sound very extreme. No professional sound here!

4.) What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
Fucking commercialism and trends everywhere, but also a very good extreme underground. I hate those "renewing black(?) metal bands. Only stagnation, anti-melodic degeneration is what I want! Hail to the true underground black metal like Heretic, Bestial Summoning, old Funeral Winds and Kerberos! Support the true underground! We are the underground’s underground hehehe.

5.) What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
The "Lijkenoogst" demo (100 copies!) and "Peatest hits" tape (unlimited). As we look upon it now, "Lijkenoogst" will be our last demo, but you never know. Maybe, when the scene is getting too trendy, we release another apocalyptic Peat Metal attack!!! So everyone knows there’s still some fucking maniacs left that HATE fucking keys and
melody!!!!

Nachtraaf - Fluisterwoud (Late 99/Early 00)

Fluisterwoud are from holland, raw chaotic black metal!. the interview was from the guitarist - Nachtraaf, i had to translate the first question for him as he answered it in Dutch, so i hope this makes sense... And it was conducted in The Late 1999/Early 2000

1.) A brief synopsis of the projects history/contributing members/release history
Fluisterwoud was brought to life as a one man project. I Wanted to make harsh, raw and fast black metal... The way it was meant to be. As I didnt know how to play the drums Krieger was brought into the band and we recorded the demo "Een Sinister Schouwspel". After the demo was released Botmuyl joined the band and took over the vocal duties. Krieger was replaced by Gnoom who was later on thrown out. At An Asphyx concert Nachtraaf and Botmuyl met Wilgenman (drums) en Havoque (bass) who went on to join the band to form a complete line up for recording the upcoming cd.

2.) Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music.
The inspiration was to play black metal like it was in the past and the way I like it!!!... Fast drums and sharp guitars... NO FUCKING TRENDY KEYBOARDS OR FEMALE VOX!!!! Lots of people told me that our music reminds them back in the old days, when black metal wasn't a trend, but when it was fucking obscure. Lots of people tell us that we sound a bit like old Satyricon, old Beherit or old Emperor...

3.) Some specifics on your sound.
Like I said, we use raveshing guitars and fucking fast drums, like it should be!!!! No fucking trends here!!!!

4.) What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
Well, In my opinion black emtal is becoming a trend... The play black metal to be cool, impress their friends or to provoke their parents. You see lots of kids nowadays walking around in Korn shirts and tell evryone that they listen to black metal... IT MUST STOP!!!! There are also lots of bands trying to copy Cradle of Wimps or Dimmu Burger, with lots of shitty keyboards and females screaming and stuff... Fuck it... The way they play black metal, isn't the right way!!!! It must be obscure, grim and trendcrushing, not like some poppy rock band... In the Netherlands we got lots of those shit bands, but I'm glad that we've got also lots of true and dedicated bands, who support our war against trends!!!!

5.) What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
We are going to record a split cd with the Dutch band D.R.E.P this year and it will be very brutal!!! There are also plans to make a split e.p with HEIDENLAND, but nothing is certain yet... We will do more gigs and that kind of stuff.......

GrevDrake - Goddess of Desire (August 1999)

This Interview Was Conducted on August 9th 1999 with GrevDrake, the band's
Vocalist/Guitarist.

1.) Could you give an introduction to your band and to who you are, for the readers out there who don't know you?
Well, we are Goddess Of Desire, Holland's biggest showmetalband. We play old metal from the eighties and on stage we combine this with a very exciting show. On stage we have a lot of fireworks, flame-projectors and together with some brutal Heavy Metal we have some girls on stage who do some acts on it.

2.) What kind of music would you describe Goddess Of Desire as? I mean You wear fur and war paint and metal studs like most black metal bands but you are something different right? could ya tell us in more detail?
We are not a Black Metal band. We do have anti-christian understandings, but our music is more like old death- and thrashmetal. We also do some heavy metal in it, melody is good in music, it makes the music better to recognize. As for our paint and fur, a lot of old non-blackmetalbands wore it also, like Slayer, Hellhammer, Manowar, Destruction and Infernäl Mäjesty.

3.) on the Live At Wacken video you introduce the song "Blasphemic Beasts Convoked" as an antichristian song.. does this mean that the band is a satanist band?
No. We all have our own opinion about religion, but that's something personal for everyone of us. We are all anti-Christian however, because most fanatic Christians are just hypocrites. We also dislike so-called fake Satanism. Real Satanism is an individual thought, mainly focused on someone's own importance and needs. I follow this rules of my own like this and I dispise all organized religion because it's for blind sheep who can't make up their own mind about things.

4.) The band likes to do a big show when they play live, which I saw on the video. Does it ever occur that you get the feeling that the show becomes more important than the music?
Well, normal gigs don't have so much show, but with gigs like Dynamo Open Air and Wacken Open Air we double or triple all show-aspects, because it's something special. Our normal gigs have some explosives and fire and some female effects in it. Wacken was a very special gig for us, that's why we exaggerated a bit on the show-aspect.

5.) At Wacken you also played a song along with 2 members from Sacred Steel, Have you ever done or will you ever do any collaborations on your CDs with other bands?
We did a song together with Sacred Steel for a compilation-CD. It was a cover from Merciful Fate, but we are not planning to have any guest-performances on our own albums.

6.) Now that the band is signed on Metal Blade will there be a re-release of the now sold out 1st album from Goddess of Desire?
I don't know who will re-release our first album, but we have plans to re-release it. I guess this will be done by us, I don't think Metal Blade will be interested in re-releasing it. Time will tell, I guess.

7.) How do You feel about christian bands in the metal scene? and bands like Cradle Of Filth who only seem to be in the scene for the sake of money and not for the love of metal?
Christian bands are just losers. I mean, what's the point of making Christian metal? Christians are just pathetic hypocrite fools who are only getting a kick out of spreading lies and trying to picture themselves to others as "good". It makes me sick when someone tells me he is a better person, just because he's christian. I noticed that a lot of these christian people have something to do with incest, drug-abuse and other really bad shit

8.) The band has only toured in Germany, Holland and Belgium right? will the band be touring to the US now with the signing on Metal Blade?
Not this year, but maybe next year. I'm not really looking forward to it, however, because I heard some very bad stories about touring in the USA. On the other hand, I don't wanna let our fans in the USA down. I guess when we go to the States, we have to be a support-act for a bigger band over there. That way we will get some attention, I hope.

9.) What are the main influences for Goddess Of Desire? Like what bands do you listen to?
Everyone from Goddess Of Desire has it's own musical influences. I guess when I gather all bands we listen to you'll get a list like this: Carnivore, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Venom, In Flames, The Crown, Slayer, Metallica, Merciful Fate, Infernäl Mäjesty and more like this

10.) Thanks for doing this interview. Anything you'd like to say to end off the interview?
Well, I hope we will be able to tour the rest of the world once, because I really enjoy playing for people. For people who want more info about us, check our website: http://www.goddess-of-desire.com. For vinyl-lovers, we just made an LP-version of our latest album with some very nice picture-material on it.
