D. - Woods of Desolation (30th December 2009)

Woods of Desolation is a fairly young project from Australia, creating Depressive Black Metal. They have a few releases out now, one of which is an album which is nothing short of a masterpiece and now that there's a new vocalist working with the project we sent some questions D.'s way.

1. Gegroet, some of the readers may know you from your work with Austere but can you first introduce us to Woods of Desolation.
Hello. Well, Woods of Desolation was formed in 2005, under this name we have publicly released 2 demos, 2 splits, a full-length and an EP.

2. P. knight was doing vocals and bass for Woods Of Desolation, with his being located in South West Wales, UK. How did that affect the recording procedure?
The distance between us didn't really drastically affect things at all. I would record the drums and guitars myself, then mail him the tracks to complete bass and vocals. Whilst this may of resulted in tracks taking longer to complete then the average band, this was never a huge problem for me.

3. How would you normally approach recording a song with Woods Of Desolation? I heard that some of it was improvised, is that true?
Correct. Up to and including the "Toward The Depths" full-length much was improvised. I would usually work alone on songs on an old acoustic guitar and play the riffs over and over again until I found something that worked for me, I would then go and improvise large parts of it during recording. I found this way of creating/recording best to allow me to be able to fully express honestly what I needed to whilst creating music. However, from the recently released "Sorh" EP and on future recordings there will not be any improvisation.

4. When you first came up with the idea of Woods Of Desolation, what made you decide to make a project with someone on the other side of the globe as opposed with someone locally? Was the distance the reason that P. knight is no longer in the band and replaced by Desolate?
When Wooods of Desolation started, I simply wanted NOTHING to do with any "scene" or be apart of anything, it existed purely for my own purposes and inner desires, and still does. I wanted to be able to create what I wanted, and needed to, alone, without any regard for anything or anyone else, which I couldn't do in previous local bands/projects. I had been in contact with P. Knight for a few years previously, so getting him involved was the right choice to make at the time, but getting someone locally, such as Desolate, makes things much easier to complete recordings and achieve the final idea's I have in my head etc.

5. I heard a few years ago that it snowed for the first time in over a century in some parts of Australia, Did this happen anywhere near you? I just ask while I wonder how much the climate where a band is located influences their sound. Your sound has such a desolate and lonely feeling to it, which generally makes me think of the empty lands in Wales or mountains of Scandinavia, what are your surrounding areas like and how do you feel they have affected you ith the music you create? Do you think it would be very different were you to live in say, Scandinavia or Scotland?
Well it does snow each winter in some parts of Australia, but the story you mention was indeed in area's that have not seen snow for a long time, unfortunately I did not get to see this...Where I currently reside you have the mountains a very short distance away from the coastline, whilst scenic-wise it may well be a decent location, my surrounding climate/area has a minimal influence on the creative process. What is reflected within my music is purely a reflection of myself, so if I was to live in Australia or Scandinavia etc the music would still have the same feeling(s) to it regardless of my location. Negativity, depression, hatred and similar emotions/views/feelings are not necessarily always relative to ones climate/geographical location, but more so to the individual creating the music.

6. The Woods Of Desolation album has a dark depressing feeling about it, unlike many other bands I have heard in a while it sends me into a trance when I listen to it. Does the music have a similar effect for you? Did you draw on any specific influences (musical, emotional, location) to create these trance inducing atmospheres?
When creating the music, yes. I have lost many hours whilst writing/recording material for Woods of Desolation. I do not like to listen to my work after it is finished for various reasons, so I can't really comment on what effect it has on me whilst listening to it afterwards.

7. I felt the newer material which I have heard with Desolate on vocals also sounded quite different musically, was this a result of losing P. Knight's input, or was there always an intention to progress Woods Of Desolation's sound since I felt the album was a big difference from the preceding demo.
All progress was just a natural occurrence over the years, there has never been, and never will be, a concious decision to change anything, not for myself and especially not for anyone else.

8. Can we expect further musical progression on future Woods of Desolation albums? Would you ever have any clean vocals in Woods of Desolation like we see in Austere?
I think musically we will no doubt progress further, but as said, it will not be a forced decision, whatever happens will just happen of it's own accord.

9. Do you think you would ever have more members join the ranks of Woods Of Desolation? Maybe, for instance, to create a full line up?
There is a strong possibility that I will recruit a drummer for future recordings instead of myself. I simply do not have time to play/practice drums anymore, nor do I think my drumming ability is up to the level I now require. Apart from this there is no need to recruit any other members at this stage, and I don't forsee this changing anytime soon.

10. I've seen The One play live with vocals, guitars and a drummer and this worked quite well, they created a dark atmosphere while paying. Would you consider playing live with Woods Of Desolation? If not with a permanent line up, perhaps with a live line up?
I have at times considered the possibility of performing live, but I do not think it will ever happen. Performing live is simply not something I enjoy, plus not too mention Woods of Desolation is a deeply personal creation, and not something I wish to "expose" to anyone else outside the band. I feel with music, especially Black Metal, alot of feeling/atmosphere is lost when performed live. I will always prefer to perform, create & listen to music by myself.

11. With the progression of music involved in Austere and Woods Of Desolation, how do you feel about the people adament with keeping Black Metal "the old way"? Do you think the scene needs more bands like Woods Of Desolation and Austere who push the boundaries of Black Metal or do you think there's a risk where the music you create stops being Black Metal, as happened with avantgarde "Black Metal" bands of the 90s such as Arcturus.
I do understand people who wish to keep Black Metal "the old way", but they need to realise, it is not up to them what the bands do. If the band wants to incorporate different elements outside the usual boundries, so be it, it is ultimately the creator's decision what they wish to do with their music. That said, I do not think or worry about this at all when creating my own music.

12. What can we look forward to seeing from Woods Of Desolation in the coming months or years?
I am currently writing a new full-length, I'm hoping to have it completed and recorded sometime in 2010, but time will tell.

H.V. - Wormlust (November 2009)

There aren't many bands from Iceland. Here is an interview with one of Iceland's Black Metal bands, Wormlust which arose from the ashes of another project named Wolfheart. This interview was conducted with H.V. on Friday 13th November 2009.

1. Not many people will have heard of wormlust so please introduce yourself.
Wormlust,-the vessel from which asphyxiaton metal is spewed. I have a forthcoming split coming out on Total Holocaust Records with Haud mundus titled Oblivio appostitus and a demo this year that explores the paths we must all travel down into the void.

2. Most bands change names due to line up changes or drastic changes in the sound. What was your reason for changing the name?
It was exactly that, a drastic change in sound . It also gave me the means to a modus operandi, a singularity to draw from. the meaning also runs deeper than that of the first name I chose - but that one is up to others to decipher.

3. Wolfheart/Wormlust has had other members in the ranks, but I believe you've written most of the music. Will this always be the case or will you have other members who will become permanent members and have an input on the material?
Wolfheart was to be a live band and I rehearsed all of the material that later became the Ave Nokturnum demo with a drummer but nothing besides the demo became of that. At this stage its not a band but the musical journals of my trips into the extremes, and I doubt that anyone could keep up with my work schedule. Its erratic at best, most of my music has been written in one go with long hours behind it.

Outside of vocal contributions It has only been me and will remain that way. The only additional personnel I think might work would be drums, and that in the mixing stage.

One ultimately goes down the paths to oblivion alone and the work ethic of Wormlust reflects that fact.

4. You worked with some other bands in the past. Are you still working on other projects? Do you prefer having multiple members input into the music? Or do you prefer just having your own input as you have done with Wolfheart/Wormlust?
I currently have one other band beyond Wormlust, but mostly to further extend my abilites as a musician. It´s an expression of my fondness for psychedelia and psychedelics, something that has translated rather poorly into blackmetal I feel. We shall see.

I have been in traditional bands countless times and working with others can have its rewards but it rarely translates into anything meaningful.

I like having total control in Wormlust, and idea of control itself. - With music you can influence a person aurally into a certain mood by something that you create. Art defined as the act of personal expression outside of the primal urges does not exist I believe. It´s all about dominance. By myself I can keep the overall vision and ultimately the control.

5. You spent some Time studying in the UK. Did you feel that the metal scene was very different in the UK to Iceland? Did you work on any music while you were in the UK? And if so did you feel the music was very different from when you were in Iceland?
Yeah, the most notable difference I remember were the pre-rehearsed rockstar poisturing of many of the bm bands I saw in the uk, I honestly can´t see that here. It´s probably because of how small the venues are for underground bands in iceland, I suppose its harder to act like a blackmetal bon jovi when you are on eye level with your audience.
Icelandic bands on a large degree also seem to have more of chaotic vibe to them.

I saw a show f.i with Svartidauði where they played in a middle of the crowd and the frontman would from time to time physically assault audience members, by the end the crowd had been beaten into a kind of state of submission. It was intense.

The material I did for the split was all recorded in London, It was a turning point musically. Because of negative outside factors I shut myself from the world and wrote the songs. The urban landscape gives as much as it takes.

6. You are having vocals done by Wann from Rebirth of Nefast. How Did this come about since Wann is from Ireland. Did you meet during your studies in the UK? Do you think you might have any other members joining wormlust in the future, and if so, think you'd ever play live?
Yes, He did the vocals for the split and an excellent job at that. But I cant really comment beyond that. He does not want to broadcast his personality - So I must respect those wishes.

As for playing live I dont think that would be a possibility, there are up to 200 overdubbed guitars at time , and the idea of translating that into a live show is a nightmare -also it would lose the drowning feeling which the guitar orchestra creates.

7, DOes Iceland have a good live scene? DO many gigs come through there? Or do you have to travel to other countries in order to be able to see any live shows?
The live scene is active, I go out once in a blue moon to see the bands that I like - seeing that most of them play about hundred times too many a year you can usually pick when.

All of the foreign bands that come through here are horrible, reflections of how out of touch with reality most promoters are. I dont have enough fingers and toes to count all the horrible power/prog/hair-metal bands and at the same time a limbless person could count the really good ones.

8. How does the Icelandic landscape affect the msuic you make with your projects? Wormlust's demo didnt really have a traditional sound and sounded rather unique. Do you think this is a result of where you were located? Do you think the sound would have been different if you stayed n the UK and continued to record there?
I cant say that the landscape influenced me much in the making of the demo, the external didn´t really move me . I let the internal be the guide when making the demo- the theme was the path to mental absence. Under the influence of days of sleep deprivation I started recorded things I would not have been created otherwise, I kept on pushing myself and recording until the music started to smother everything out of me. It is the map to my streams of consciousness for the listener then to drown in.

I dont think I would have made another sound if I had stayed in the Uk, it got rather intense in the end.

9. You have a split coming out with Haud Mundus threough Total Holocaust Records. How will the material on this split differ from the material on the demo?
It is a reworked recording of a 2006 demo I did while living in london. Its more brutal and raw,but still has the similar emotionless feel to it. Like the demo it was written in one go but this one has the benefit of hindsight.

10. What else can we expect from yourself and wormlust in the future?
I am currently mapping out the execution of a Lp which deals with the theme of drowning and all that it entails, that is asphyxiating mentally, aurally and physically - exploring more paths into oblivion.

11. Thanks for taking out some time for this interview. Do you have any last words you'd like to share? Website or snail mail contacts?
You drown not by falling into a river, but by staying submerged in it.

Foglord Gwalikath - Nekantropy (February 2004)

Nekantropy was a raging Black Metal project from Canada, this interview was completed in February 2004 with the main force behind the project Foglord Gwalikath.

1. A brief synopsis of the projects history/contributing members/release history
So far, Nekantropy has had three acual contributing members. Nekantropy was formed in 2001, for the expressing of the thoughts of Gwalikath. These three members include Gwalikath, Arataus (Misvita) and Dohmnach (Forest of Castles). These members were generally added to do drum programming and some bass. However, with the recording quality we had to deal with, this was not overly successful. I have now taken things into my own hands and currently songs are being recorded for the next demo. The only demo released so far is Foglords. This is not an active portrayal of the music to come.

2. Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music.
Inspiration behind the music would include medieval aspects and hate towards today’s humanity. The race of mankind was once glorious, however of late many aspects (interracial-breeding, multiculturalism, democracy, rise of technology) have destroyed what was left of our race.

3. Some specifics on your sound.
The sound is raw and grinding, often improvised at certain parts in the music. Drums are normally filled with blastbeats and guitars are generally not technical. Expect more mystical Nekantropy in the future.

4. what does your music portray or represent?
My music represents all that my mind thinks. Stagnation in the dark ages, nature and separation of the cultures.

5. What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
Frankly, my area brings nothing black metal. I have little care or respect for any “black metal” scene. Most of the bands you can see nowadays are generally trendfaggits who all go after the same satanic, evil path. This is not what, in my opinion, black metal is about.

6. What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
Most likely some splits with Geimhre or other Canadian hordes I respect.

7. Ask yourself one question you'd like to be asked and answer it.

8. Thanks or taking the time to fill this out, any last words?
Stay true to yourself, may the human race choke on the grey ash of nuclear warheads.

9. Do You Have Any Contact Info? Such As A Homepage, Snail Mail or Email Addies.
You can contact me about the demo at Nekantropy@Death-star.com or use MSN via necromayhem@antisocial.com

Herr Chemosh - christcrusher productions (2002)

After having bought a of items couple from this label's distro and having bought a few copies of the extremely cool "gather against humanity" 4 band split for distribution in Denmark, my interest for the label was burning now. Some time has passed and Herr Chemosh is really getting things on a roll, so therefore he gets the honour of being featured her.e Check out this label and support it, it's the real thing

- Hails Herr Chemosh, how is the current state of the extreme metal scene in England?
Gegroet, it's getting there. there's bands popping all over the place who are playing raw black metal, and not shit either, people just have an aversion to the UK scene due to shit like CoF and hecate enthrond and the years of them persisting they're black metal. now everyone thinks that any band to
say they're bm from the UK will sound like them.

There's quite a few good acts now though like ODIUM, Eternity of Darkness, Ichneutic, Nigrescent to name a few. All playing raw black metal, which isnt a bad thing.

Although I have to say as my fatherland is Belgium my interest lies with that scene, Gotmoor, Worthless (now Paragon Impure), Grimfaug, lugubrum, YMI, enthroned, The
Beast, Axamenta, Avatar, Ecliptica and the likes.

- Will you tell a bit about yourself, why are you spending your time on metal and can you remember your first encounter with the blessed music?
Well there's always a pathway into black metal isn't there, mine started off with listening to KISS, was, twisted sister and manowar from a young age and then one day in october/november `95 wondering about in a store looking for kiss and accidentally coming accross king diamond. Downloaded that as soon as i got online round may `96 and went out to buy the spider's lullaby a few days after that. In august `96 i came accross immortal's BITN while looking for the king's cds, which didnt impres me much...September `96 saw me buying a terrorizer zine which had the king on the cover and within i learnt about bands such as mayhem, gehenna, satyricon and the likes.

We all know how being rebellious rules when we're young and after a violent encounter with my dad which ended up with me being kicked out of the house the record store was my first target and mayhem, carcass plus immolation
cds made it into my pocket, from there on there's been no turning back and black metal has become the world.

- When and how did Christcrusher Productions start?
Having lived in Hong Kong for most of my life made finding good black metal a chore, so in `99 i started using underground mail orders, buying demos and such, this led me to finding many gems, and i wondered why so many of
these great bands (Musta Surma, Warloghe, Tharaphita etc) were unsigned, so i decided there needed to be a label to cater for such great acts.

In september or october `01 i decided university wasnt my life, so i dropped out and started making plans of how i would support the music scene other than my page whichs located at http://melektaus.christcrusher.com and i
decided i should start up a label or distro. The first cds i distributed were the Melektaus mcd and the VladTepes mcd, I hated how a mainstream shit label was selling these great releases so i bought off there copies off the distro/label and christcrusher prod was born.

- What is the philosophy behind the label?
There isn't really any philosophy behind the label, other than not ripping off the black metal fans and offering the lowest possible prices!

- Why did you feel you had to start a label, what can you and your label offer compared to other underground labels?
Other than what I described before, I felt that too many labels and distros out there are fucking rip off, charging 12$for an MCD, and 15-20for CDs. this is fucking bullshit! I fucking hate that kind of shit which is why i strive to get low prices, this does mean i dont earn shit from the label and i dont get heaps of money to put back into the label. and so i get a limited catalogue list.

- How did you get inspired to start up a label?
The day I saw those Vlad Tepes and MelekTaus cds in the catalogue of that gay label i just emailed them and told them i wanted all their copies of these cds and a week later i was distributing. Then about a year onward came the 4way split cd

- What have you so far released and do you have any exciting things coming up?
So far there's been Kult ov Azazel/Obitus/Humanicide/Thy Lord - Gather Against Humanity CD
raw black metal - limited to 300 with the first 50 numbered in my blood

Toroidh - Europe is Dead 7" Pic disk VINYL
neo classical/folk/ambient - limited to 200

Gurthant - The Thrill of Live Magick TAPE
Death/black metal live tape - limited to 50 handnumbered copies

Darkest Hate/Black Winter Night - split demo
Raw black metal from brazil - limited to 333 handnumbered copies

Eternity of Darkness - Ship of Fools
Raw black metal - limited to 200 handnumbered copies

various goodies are coming up, but I'll address those later on.

- What do a band have to offer, before you would sign it/release something with it?
All I really need is to be able to hear the band, i am not going to release something which i havent heard and also wont re-issue just any demo or what ever. when it comes to bands like Eternity of Darkness and ODIUM, these
items were limited to 20 and 40copies on CD-r so this warrants a re-issue. but a demo or what ever which has been properly released on cd or tape by a label will not be re-issued after being sold out.

- Have you limited the label to only concentrating on a few musical styles or are you open towards everything?
I love quite a lot of music ranging from industrial to ambient to death metal to black metal, but i wont release the kinds of music which you find everywhere. for example a dimmu clone wont be found amongst my releases!

But I prefer to just release raw black metal, but as the past has shown with the gurthang and toroidh releases i will release some other material as well, i think fans of the label into the raw black metal will be surprised by the Vehemence6.2 release especially. Even i am in the dark with how this will sound though. And i have spoken with Nordvargr about a possible future release of Toroidh or another side project of mz.412.

Also in the distro i have been known to distro none BM items like, penitent, veiled allusions, folkstorm, toroidh, sephiroth and the likes.

- What are your own favorite style within the dark world of metal?
Raw black metal, plain n simple.

- If you could choose 3 bands of your own choice (past and present) and release something with the band, who would you choose?
Musta Surma, Vlad Tepes, GGFH

These bands strike me as acts which didnt get enough attention. i was asked to release the Musta Surma album at one point but i told them all i could do was an album on vinyl and they never contacted me after that email to them.

- If you got the chance to release something with e.g. COF and you knew it would sell shitloads, would you take the offer or turn it down?
Turn it down, im not in this business to make money, if i was my prices would be higher and i'd be releasing shit. bands like that get too much attention any way, they dont need it from supporters of the underground as well.

- If you ever got the chance to turn Christcrusher into to a large label, would you do that or will you remain dedicated to the underground?
I would love to turn christcrusher into a large label, but in the sense of a label which is able to cop with a lot of releases, not a label which makes shitloads of money with fucking shit releases. But i will only release cds or vinyls for the underground bands and keep it all limited and i will never raise my prices to the ridiculous unless the mailing places force me to do so by raising their prices.

- How is the local metal scene, is there anything happening near your home?
I'm currently working on getting a new band started out of the ashes of my last one (Dawn of Apocalypse) which died when my fist and knee struck the other founding member's face.

Other than that there's one death metal act who arent bad, just have horse shit drum programmin rather than a real drummer which totally ruins their sound.

A lot of the people around here are full of shit, example someone shoves me from behind face first into a pillar at a metal/rock club's dance floor, i retaliate by grabbing who it is by the hair and slamming them into the pillar without looking. turns out it's a fucking bitch, so i get banned just because it's female. then a few days later i'm being told i've been punching this whore in the face for no apparent reason and kicking her while she's down. wow great metal scene. For a good local scene i'd better move back to Belgium. which i might do in a few years

although there's quite a few people into raw bm around here but no one has a band and there is no place to hang out or do anything interested, which is why i spend all my free time on my label or camping out in the mountains
and making visits to ancient neolithic burial chambers and making walks in the woods! which is why currenly i am trying to find a house in the woods on the mountains in the outskirts of this town to live in.

My dream would be to get a house in the outskirts of the town in the woods on the mountains witha decent garden, so i'd be able to bring down some underground bands and have a "mini festival" with people camping out and the bands playing out there.

- If I say black metal, what do you say?
Fuck Yeah!

That's all i can come up with now, as the love for this music is not something I can describe in words, i can only display it with my support for the scene through

- How long do you think Christcrusher will continue to spread the plague, have you ever thought of giving up?
Giving up? No. Taking a break? Yes. There have been quite a few times where i have had to live off other people as i havent been able to even buy my own food due to pumping so much of my own money into the label. when ever
I make money from work or what ever I tend to put it immediately towards the label and before i realise how low on money I am, I end up with an empty fridge and no food to eat. due to this i have thought about laying it to
rest for a few months and restarting it

- In ten years from now, what do you want people to think when the hear Christcrusher Productions?
I'd like people to think of x-crusher prod as a/the home for raw underground black metal. a place where one an go and get some cheap music.

- Both your releases and your distro items are very cheap, how do you manage to keep a healthy business going?
By eating very cheap food heh. i tend to work for it. a fuckload. the only reason to live is black metal, and so i work my job, most people go to work and do this to survive. i go to work and do this to sort my label out, i'll put my label and distro and music before my own health.

- Which of your releases are you most proud of and which one rips the most?
that's very hard to say, i am proud of all of them, the main thing is that i have to say is that having a release out and getting interest for them is like getting your own music recorded and you listen to your demo tape and you think "fuck, i did that!" and this is how i have felt about all of my releases to be honest.

- Wouldn't "Gather Against Humanity" look fucking great on a picture disc, have you ever thought about releasing a full length vinyl?
This is true, or perhaps on a gatefold vinyl, but i have never really discussed it with the bands, and as i dont talk to ThyLord or Humanicide anymore so i doubt this will happen, I thought about it before but i just dont think it will be a possibility.

- Are you into vinyl yourself, what do you like/dislike about the format? Do you have some gems in your collection?
I adore vinyl, i love the way the format is, the way it feels to be holding a cd is nothing compared to a vinyl in your hands, i just like how the artwork looks so much more majestic and impressive, the sound is in my opinion a lot better too, cant describe it, but only another vinyl fanatic would understand how the vinyl pops are so great.

some gems?

MayheM - de mysteriis dom sathanas
morbid - live pic disk 7" tribute to DEAD
Devil Doll - dies irae
Devil Doll - The Girl who was Death
Devil Doll - Sacrilegium
All bathory albums
All Darkthrone albums
3 macabre vinyls
moribund 7"
sarcofago - INRI
Mutiilation - vampires of black imperial blood double gatefold LP (this vinyl would sell for up to 600$us)

there's too many to really list, also have various thrash items.

- Do you have any bands in mind for future releases?
I was discussing with a few bands... ThyLord (estonia) and vinterriket's album on tape. although confirmed releases i will list with the next question...

- How will the future be for Christcrusher, what can we expect from your side?
As for the future there's quite a lot planned for christcrusher prod. In the coming month there will be a re-issue of the ODIUM first demo which was put out on CD-r and was limited to 20copies, i'll be releasing that on tape limited to 100copies. This is great underproduced raw buzzy minimalistic black metal which reminds of ildjarn.

Botulistum LP. this vinyl will contain all the tracks they ever recorded during their 3 or 4 year history plus some live tracks and unreleased tracks. limited to 200copies in perhaps a gatefold sleave (unsure) it will be hand numbered and come with a poster. a number will also be numbered or smeared in blood, whether i am willing to take the blade to myself for getting enough blood to do this will be discovered in the future.. RAW underproduced black metal from Holland

4 or so Vinterriket posters will see the day of light in September.

Vehemence6.2 power Noise/industrial music from USA. this has been delayed for a few month already, it was ment to be out in June, a tape version of the CD-r which the band has ben spreading, but with about 60-70mins of extra music.

There will also be a great mayhem tribute to the old and only true mayhem with only tracks being covered from the demos, deathcrush and de mysteriis recordings. This has been delayed by almost a year and fuck knows when it
will be out.

And the last item which is at the moment confirmed for the future will be a Botulistum/Lugubrum split 7" with both bands recording new material for it.

Info on all this can be found at christcrusher.com though

- Will you share your 3 all time fave albums with us?
Very difficult question...

Shellyz Raven - Desolation, this cd makes me feel like there is more to discover in the world of depression, perhaps not black metal but fuck it.

Gehenna - 2nd spell. This is what opened up my eyes to black metal, i had discovered the music already for a few months, but this cd just made it all much more impressive.

Don't know what I would pick as a third, perhaps vlad tepes/belketre split, or long voyage back's first album, or something by nine inch nails, not black metal, but a great band none the less, it was my favourite band before
i discovered black metal and will probably always be.

- Thanks a lot for answering my questions! If you have something to add, please feel free to do it now!
No Problem, thanks for your support and i hope you enjoy the promotional
material i sent your way~

P. Knight - Odium (June 2009)

7 years since the last Odium interview I felt the need to sit P. Knight down once more to find out what's been happening over the last few years and how his musical endeavours have progressed. This is a more laid back and commical interview than any of the interviews on Terror Propaganda so far.

1. If you could wear anyone's skin, who's would it be? Why?
Anyone’s skin? Well, I’d have to go back to fictional times and get the baby Jesus so I could clone him. I'd make ten clones, wait till their all 8 months, kill em and skin em, maybe just skin em, let them grow old with no skin. No need to be mean and killing stuff. Then stitch them together to make a body suit. Why? I could slap midgets with the little arms and legs that hang from my suit.

2. List lyrics for your gayest song. What inspired you?
That would involve far too much digging about.

3. What's your favourite excuse when being caught fucking a headless corpse's maggot ridden rotting gash?
It’s always got to be blaming it on the demon in my cock.

4. Which cd was the biggest mistake you ever made buying?
It would have to be " satans hordes shall rise again - gather against humanity”

5. Haha you flaming homo, why not go out and buy an inflatable sexmandoll. but anyway, when did you create Odium? And why on earth do you make your music public?
Good question. First off, nothing i like more than purple headed womb ferrets pressed against my chocolate starfish and second, Ive far too many sexmandolls. All of em broken due to being hit with cum covered hammers and slashed with cut-throat razors. Public, only to those who choose to buy or trade. Maybe I should have kept it all to my self, but then why not spread the nightmares? It was created 1,998 years after little jesus first wet the bed. Why? Who knows? A calling..... for more crap.

6. Tell us about your favourite dream. and not the homo-midget fucking one.
One that lingers, walking through a field riddled with dead rotting sheep. I come across this one sheep who's eyes have since long gone, its jaw smashed and skin missing from its bone. Out of its abdomen is a lamb that is still alive and has just finished eating its way out of its dead mother’s womb. It’s covered in blood and crying pathetically at me. A typical dream. A more recent one, witnessing two women become involved in a gas explosion. The first knocked to the floor and badly burnt, the second trapped in a door way and unable to escape the white hot heat. I watch as her flesh is burnt from her skull, I stare into her eyes as her life is burnt away. Woke up with a proper knobber that morning i tell you.

7. You have made a music video for Odium, tell us about this and will there be more videos to come?
Its was no where near as good as I intended. I wanted lots of fire and a guest appearance from satan. Maybe next time. There will be more to come. The majority of the trash was filmed in the depths of an ancient lead mine. All the nature shots were filmed while a rotting squirrel hung from my raging semi.

8. What is happening as of late with your label?
Death. Ive got to trim some dead meat from my activities. Got to focus my energies on music and the furies of the knuckle shuffle.

9. You have a project called October, are you involved with anything else?
Depravity zine, la bete and as mentioned, october. la bete is with a drum machine, therefore lacking the spontaneity of odium. October is musical experimentation. Anything goes. Midget fisting? I’ve a couple of other things up my poop chute. The patience of a Jedi will not be rewarding.

11. You once played drums for an Emit album, how did this come about?
that was many beers ago. Very vivid memory’s.

11. Do you ever see any of your projects performing live? How would you envisage your perfect live performance?
Me drunk, playing crap for a couple dozen of very bored people. The room im in is brick lined. There are no windows or doors, only a hole in the roof. Water runs down the wall’s in pathetic dribbles, quenching the thirst of the abundant mounds of mould. The people, sitting on their up turned concrete blocks get so bored that they pluck out their own eyes. The floor can no longer been seen for the blood and squashed eyes. The cacophony of terror from my guitar deafens the rooms occupants. Satan descends from the darkness. ( We are all upside down ) The people bleed, a lot, and slowly rot. The angels that follow dance the dance of death in a pool of rotting flesh that swims around their feet. They are there to take away the souls of the fallen. The souls are gone, the angels quest futile. Satan’s mission complete.

12. I have a copy of your zine depravity which was very minimalist, twisted and great, will you be doing any further issues of this zine?
Only the dark gods can decide this matter. The voices will fill my skull with their bidding.

13. What can we expect from you over the next few years?
Same as always, crap followed by more crap. Today i found a very small snare drum from a kids drum kit. Had to beat up the kid to get it. He almost got the better of me mind. Tiny fists hurt my aged flesh. Anyways, i prevailed. So now i have a very small snare, its about 9 inches across. Ill record some shit in the woods i think. A month or so with my little drum, deep in the welsh woods, recording onto a rotating drum of wax. My flesh coated in my own worm ridden faeces. Ill feast on rocks mushrooms and slugs and drink fermented badger piss.

14. Thanks for your time, use this space to end this interview how ever you wish.
Its taken me a month of drunken Sundays to answer this interview. I hope you’re all vomiting out your third eyes. May the sun become blocked by the ashes of human ambition. Hail satan.

???? - Anaxagazaroth (23rd November 2003)

Anaxagazaroth is one of the uk's unknown entities. Here we try to unveil some of the mistery.

1.) A brief synopsis of the projects history/contributing members/release history
Anaxagazaroth has released two demos, each limited to five copies, and contributed to a split record with Ichneutic, S.I.S.T. and Eternity of Darkness. A compilation of all this material, as well as eight new improvised pieces was to be released on Albion Records, but this idea has since been abandoned.

2.) Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music.
The inspiration for Anaxagazaroth comes from the woods and downs of Sussex; the fens of Norfolk; the moors of Cumbria; England's many forgotten stone circles; rain; dead trees; the spaces between the stars; poetry; the emotions that surround death

3.) Some specifics on your sound.
Anaxagazaroth is a constantly evolving entity. The first demo was minimalist, improvised black metal in the vein of "Transilvanian Hunger". The second was more primitive, slower, and pitched in lower registers. The material that appeared on the split tape was also black metal, this time a mixture of fast and slow passages, tonality and discord, melody and unmelody. Material currently being composed uses less of a black metal framework; instead taking inspiration from avant-garde folk/noise/ritual music... wait and see.

4.) what does your music portray or represent?
The sublime terror that engulfs the soul just before death, when all hope of assuaging its inevitability is crushed. This is the meaning of Anaxagazaroth.

5.) What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
There are some talented acts; there are lots of acts with no talent or ideas. The underground is in some respects degenerate and stagnated: however, this merely necessitates deeper and more thorough searches for noteworthy artists.

6.) What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
Currently, a full length work is being composed. This will be proffered to a variety of record labels. There may be more to follow, there may not.

7.) Thanks or taking the time to fill this out, any last words?
Thanks for the interest. Look out for new Anaxagazaroth material... those who seek, shall find.

8.) Also, please provide website information, if applicable....
No.

Winterkaelte (22nd November 2003)

New project hailing from the uk. Interview conducted with the sole member.

1.) A brief synopsis of the projects history/contributing members/release history
In the year 2000, the project was formed under various names.
In the year 2003, the project received it’s true name.
I had one extra member on vocals who was a faggot and tried to dominate the project.
As far as releases go, I have one demotape "The Ruins Of Ages Past" that has changed it’s tracklist/name a lot and this is the final name/tracklisting.

2.) Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music.
I guess I am inspired by all the True, grim Black Metal that I hear, as well as Black/Thrash and Viking Metal.

3.) Some specifics on your sound.
Well my sound is your basic Black Metal Vocals, Guitars and Drum programming.

4.) what does your music portray or represent?
My music portrays my hatred for trends, grim, raw black metal, our pagan past, winter and battle.

5.) What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
I think the underground is doing very well, some great bands have been emerging such as Grimfaug, Forefather etc..

6.) What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
I have planned another demo which is the first plus extra tracks with much better sound quality and a promo.

7.) Thanks or taking the time to fill this out, any last words?
Heil Parasite, thanks for the interview, a big heil to those who support true, Grim Black metal and crush the veins of Christ!

Domhnach - Forest of Castles (24th November 2003)

Forest of Castles is a relatively new project from the northern lands of the uk. Scotland hasnt had many black metal bands but here's an interview with one of the view who have risen.

1.) A brief synopsis of the projects history/contributing members/release history
Forest of Castles started in winter 2002/2003 because I was pissed off with different bands fucking about, being unreliable and ultimately just being stupid. So I decided to start a solo project giving me complete freedom to do whatever the hell I want with the music. I did have a session drummer for a short period in September 2003 but he was very unreliable.

All the songs for the first demo “Casgradh” have been written and it should be recorded after X-mas.

2.) Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music.
I have been inspired by many different genres of music. Mainly black metal of course. Immortal, Burzum, Slayer, Mike Oldfield & Old Dimmu Borgir have had a massive influence musically.

3.) Some specifics on your sound.
Forest of Castles has been described as “the next Burzum” which I hate because I’m not trying to copy anyone. I suppose it’s raw black metal with occasional melodic parts and keyboards at times.

4.) what does your music portray or represent?
I did not write most of the lyrics so that’s a bit of a difficult question. It’s like trying to get the person who wrote the lyrics to explain my guitar riffs.

5.) What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
Yeah, There are a lot of good bands appearing everywhere and I think that the Internet plays a big part in helping unknown or unsigned bands. It has helped me significantly since I first started "forest" and I have met a lot of underground/unsigned bands through it.

6.) What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
Well I’m already working on the new demo "Pargijakun Fushjalut" which will hopefully be recorded shortly after "casgradh". I also plan to arrange a live band so I may start gigging. That’s all I really have planned at the moment.

7.) Ask yourself one question you'd like to be asked and answer it.
Don’t have a fuckin’ clue.

8.) Thanks or taking the time to fill this out, any last words?
Cheers everyone who has helped out with forest of Castles in the past year.
Thanks go out to Herr Chemosh for all his help involving "forest"
Hail the Scottish steel!!

7.) Do You Have Any Contact Info? Such As A Homepage, Snail Mail or Email Addies.

Morgoth Pestilence - S.I.S.T. (January 2003)

S.I.S.T. is the main project behind the order of the wolf rising in the UK, of anti trendy black metal bands. The interview was conducted around 20th January 2003 with the main man behind the project.

1.) Give a short introduction to SIST as no one, or hardly anyone out there will know who you are.
S.I.S.T. formed about 2 years ago in 2001. I was fucking angry at the time, the black metal scene was and still is filled with neo-nazi war metal crap that just pollutes and stifles the one or two real bands and individuals. For every black filth soaked, evil, murderous warrior I saw fighting for the spirit of true black metal there were fifty pro-white or vampire goth guys just in it for the cash and girls. I simply wanted to make music as disgusting and depraved as the thoughts inside my head.

2.) The name SIST means Self Inflicted Scar Tissue, so i was wondering if this music is an homage to those who have attemtped slicing their wrists, or is it for those who battle depression and free the feelings through self punnishment, or is it about something else?
S.I.S.T. means three things as I intended it. Self Inflicted Scar Tissue is one, which is as you said a homage to the weakest and strongest of humanity who took their own life. It also means what it says, sist, the cancerous lump in the belly of Christianity and the insignificant wart on Satan's foot. I wanted to have a real feeling of all the best, darkest aspects of black metal. The way I see it, the sub-genres in black metal, like suicide, death, war, genocide and so on are all elements that should be included in a good project but all should be inherently Satanist and anti-Christian. Any band that looks at one of these sections specifically is OK but the true best of black metal uses all of them and produces the dirtiest, blackest shit you'll find.

3.) The first demo was affected by the laziness of another member, who's now been booted from the act, so i was wondering how the second tape will differ from this and if you will be recruiting other individuals to aid with the recording of the project in the future.
Scurge (guitarist on first demo) and I have a very love/hate relationship. He will be helping out on the second demo and he's reliable as long as I get him in one place at one time. I had to remove him as a permanent member though as his other projects, beliefs and ideas don't fit with S.I.S.T. Basically I tell him what to play and he plays it. In the future I may be getting some of the Order of the Wolf to help with the music. Grimnir T Grendel of Ichneutic offered to drum for me, P. Knight from Odium has offered vocals and drums as well. The best part of doing everything yourself is the freedom to do and use whatever and whoever you want.

4.) I had a hard time describing your music to someone the other day and all i could come up with was something along the lines of "dirty underproduced noisy black filth" or something along those lines.
how would you describe it?

The music as I like to call it is, filthy black shit from the nasty crust of Satan's deepest bowels. I exist in the form here shown as a martyr against everything accepted and 'true' in black metal. If that translates as underproduced, noisy black filth then I'm happy.

5.) What bands have influenced the music you record with SIST?
From the beginning there were always three bands that influenced me the most. Their collective discography has provided me with enough inspiration, hatred, bile, disgust and misanthropy I have ever needed. The TRUE Mayhem (as soon as Euronymous and Dead were gone I almost lost interest in all black metal), Darkthrone (especially 'Under A Funeral Moon') and Ildjarn (raw, minimalist, hateful, what more do you need?) Also I listen to an extensive amount of true Satanic black metal, ones I would particularly mention, Ichneutic, Mutiilation, Vlad Tepes, Warloghe, Moonblood, Eternity of Darkness, Odium, Only Darkness and too many others to list.

6.) In the past you have stated that the music is recorded to bring rise ocne again to the true underground and that you dont care if people hate your music. But it would seem if you want to bring this music to someone at least or you wouldnt release it, so who are you trying to reach with this? which fans NEED this tape.
The people who need to hear S.I.S.T. know who they are. They are the people who share my views, the ones who live for true black metal. The cult of misanthropic, hate filled warriors whose only comfort in this miserable life is the suffering of themselves and others. They know who they are...

7.) You're a part of the anti shit black metal campaign/brother hood Order of the Wolf, do you want to shed any more light on this?
We are the Varg. The wolf skulking in the darkness. Waiting for our time to strike at the corrupt heart of modern black metal. In time most people will know who we are, but for now to those who are interested, keep an eye on the true black metal in the UK (Ichneutic, Eternity of Darkness, Anaxagazaroth) and look at the Albion Records website for updates on the Order of the Wolf split we're compiling.

8.) This will be your only interview you will ever undertake with SIST, is there a reason for this?
I have been mulling over the ideas and beliefs of S.I.S.T. for some time and decided not to be one of those whores you see doing every interview and promotion thrown their way. I will do other interviews but not many and I will analyse and check out whatever zine it is, before committing to anything.

9.) You also have a label under your belt, do you want to share any info on that project with us? what will it release? why did you start it, a revolt against mainstream black metal labels perhaps?
Albion Records is the label I started to mainly release all the UK black metal I see and hear that I feel is worthy of a proper underground release. In particular Satanic, truly evil bands that live on this shitty island and need support and promotion. The only release so far is my debut demo "Kill Yourself. Nobody Loves You" but pretty soon I'll be releasing the Order of the Wolf slit, the second S.I.S.T. demo "Kneel For The Master" and a possible split between S.I.S.T. and Odium based around necrophilia. Also myself and Typhon (Eternity of Darkness) were thinking of releasing the Anaxagazaroth demos and material from the OotW split, but we decided against it. Another project which has just been finalised for release is my black ritual torture project called Nebiros. Basically it's black magic, ritual music with fucked up rhythms, screams of torture and death, much like the Black Legions Project and Oktober. Also Caranthir (Darkness) and myself are discussing a tape release of his new album limited and hand numbered for release in the next six months. Other than that I'm open to admissions from anyone who shares my opinions and outlook.

The name Albion Records comes from a myth Grimnir (Ichneutic) told me. Apparently England used to be called Albion back in the Roman invasion days, it means white isle and is the first recorded name given to our homeland. It's nothing pro-white at all I just felt that to bring back pride to UKBM there needs to be a direct link between the music and our past.
www.albionrecords.cjb.net.

10.) As you hate today's black metal scene, who would you say are the forces worth listening to and supporting?
The black metal I listen to has to have a certain calibre and attitude about it otherwise I just get an empty feeling and feel let down. As always my mentors and allies in the Order of the Wolf always get my undying support, Ichneutic and Eternity of Darkness. I also give my support to anything worthwhile from the UK that has the black edge, Odium, Ordog, Darkness and so on. Recently as well I heard Extinction from the UK and he has that real black filth surrounding the sound. Kind of like Abruptum slowed down, sawn up and blasted into hyperspace! Anything sick and depraved really!

11.) i'll leave this last bit for you to say what ever you want along with leaving some contact info and such. Hail!
Thanks for the interview and hails to Herr Chemosh and Christcrusher Rex. Hails to Peter of Black Abyss Productions. Hails to Satan's Millennium, Harvester and Northern Heritage. Hails to Frimost, Pu Satanachia, Nebiros and my lords Astaroth, Beelsebuth, and Lucifer, in your shadow I eternally bow.

Finally to the people who doubt my credibility and the substance of anything from the UK, be warned, the golden age of UK black metal is coming. In the darkness we hide and wait, soon everyone will understand.

To the fake UK black metal scene, Anaal Nathrakh, Frost, Acolytes Ruin and the like, your time is over, your money will be burnt, your women will be sodomised and your lives ruined.
Hails Grimnir and Typhon, my brothers in hatred and war.

P. Knight - Odium (September 2002)

When thinking of wales not many people would think of raw minimalistic black metal. But there is just such a band down there called Odium. This interview was conducted with Odium's sole musician in September 2002.

1.) Hailz, would you introduce yourself for those who have never heard of you before?.
Greetings, Well to start ODIUM Consists only of me, P.Knight. I also run ODIUM Records, with that the distro, also I have a zine comeing out soon and also my other project OCTOBER. My music is Raw, Minimalistic and Ugly. Not for the people who look for quality in their music.

2.) Where did the name ODIUM come from? And how does it link in with the idea of the band?
Actually when I was studying for my A-Levels, I was doing Law, I don’t know why, anyway the word ODIUM popped up and there we go. It means Hatred Coupled with Disgust, The way I feel about this world and it occupants, There are a few exceptions.

3.) What does the band represent? what are the lyrics about? As the artwork tends to be quite minimal and doesnt really share much with us.
The lyrics are all over the place really and don’t focus on a particular subject, really my music doesn’t need lyrics. The lyrics on “ Hatred “ were composed during a rather fucked up period of my life, the lyrics there dealt with Pain, Nightmares and Vampirism. Darkness in general.

4.) ODIUM is a band which to me resembles ildjarn, so does ildjarn play a large influence in your music? What do you do to prevent from becoming just another ildjarn clone?
I don’t think its too much like Ildjarn……Although I do like his music, I have thought about mimicking his style, but I cant get the drums right. Maybe one day……

5.) ODIUM records released a cd by a band called Anubi, named after an egyptian god i believe, and so i guess they are taking influence from the egyptian religion. how do you feel about this? Or are you as a black metaller just against xianity?
Im not to sure why ANUBI decided on the Eqyptian theme….. I don’t really care, perhaps I should? I don’t know… It is quite bad isn’t it. Im against all religion, There is no God, Satan, heaven or hell. When I refer to SATAN, lyrics and the like I suppose you could say im talking about the part of me that wants to do bad things like kill and rape women, smash small animals to pieces and masterbate over tombstones. Thankfully I suppress these desires, the thoughts still pop up almost continuasly, but there we go…

6.) Are there any other black metal bands from your area of the world as i have never heard of welsh black metal... Welsh Deth Metal yes, but black metal no.
Well, I suppose there are a couple of bands in the wales area, Grim Holocaust is one but im not too sure whats going on there. The Welsh thing, well im not from wales, Born in Bristol. English. I just live in wales cos I like the simple country life…….

7.) Tell us about the label and it's aim. the future and such.
The label, I don’t know why I started it. Its aim, to release Obscure underground music.
So far on ODIUM Records;

OD001 - ODIUM Blood. CDR Ltd to 100 copys.
OD002 - ANUBI Gods Pantheon. mcd Digipack.
OD003 - ODIUM Hatred. First 100 limited, Reissue unlimited. CDR.
OD004 - MERRESSIN Demo. Satan, oro te, Reo Portas Patere. Digi CDR.
OD005 - MERRESSIN Demo2.The Baphomets call. Digi CDR.
OD006 - OCTOBER. CDR
OD007 - EXCARNATION. CDR

Obviously the ODIUM Stuff is by me.
All my releases are now available.

8.) What'd you do if you released band's demo or what ever, from a foreign country, and then you came to find out that all those lyrics you didnt understand were just xian praise.
Nightmare!!!!! Delete the item I suppose. Religion is for fools! Invert the cross!

9.) Do you have any other projects other than your label and the band ODIUM?
Lets see, I believe I outlined it above somewhere, OCTOBER, my Acoustic, keyboard based stuff, this is a collection of recording ive done over the years, Brilliant cover artwork. Also the zine, this has taken such a long time to make, Im so lazy! Ha! Ive just got to print the bugger and it will be available. Also it comes with a cover mount CDR with songs by the bands interviewed.

10.) What can we expect from you in the future?
My next demo should be out soon “ Disgust “. I have about 5 songs recorded, they need vocals, plus ive got some extra songs planned for recording. The only thing holding me back? The Summer! When winter comes, I hope its very soon, I will get back to work recording Blasphemy and hatred in my little dark studio.

11.) Would you like to leave any contact infos and last words?
Indeed, one can contact me at ODIUMRECORDS@Hotmail.com or

P.Knight,
Llwynderw,
Conwyl Elfed,
Carmarthenshire,
SA33 6TL.
U.K.

Last words? Fuck mainstream Black Money Metal! Support the underground!

Vrolg - Nigrescent (13th August 2002)

Nigrescent is a one man project from England which reminds one of Burzum during the eras Hvis Lysset Tar Os and Filosofem. This interview was conducted with Vrolg on 13th August 2002.

1.) Gegroet vrolg, tell us about your band nigrescent.
Hails!

Basically Nigrescent has been a project of mine since around 1998. In 2000/2001, four demos were recorded. Evisceration was the fourth and last demo to be recorded. Evisceration paved the way for Palace Of The Dark Light, which was recorded in early 2002. Winds Of Sorrow, which is completely ambient was recently finished and is now available. I'm currently writing material at the moment, which I hope to finish before the end of the year.

2.) The name means darkness, is darkness perhaps another way of stating hatred? and is this the main influence behind the music?
I suppose you could say that it is another way of stating hatred. The main influence behind the music is darkness, and I suppose that it could be interpreted in many ways.

3.) Is there a local scene where you are? or is the reason for nigrescent beind a solo project the lack of a scene?
There is no real local scene where I am. Frost and Anaal Nathrakh are from this area, and that's about it really. There is no real scene of which to speak.

The reason for Nigrescent being a solo project is because I prefer it that way. I prefer it to be just myself as I can create the music I want without others polluting it.

4.) The UK has had a surge recently in raw bm bands, why do you think this is?
I haven't a clue really.

5.) You also have a label, tellus about this?
Sol (of Arkadia) and myself own Blackthrone Productions. We have currently released material by Arkadia, Nigrescent, Bleak and The Cold Beyond. There is also a Blackthrone Productions compilation which includes such bands as Frozen Shadows, Buchenwald Oven, Gollum, and many more.

6.) What was the main drive behind setting up this label?
Originally I just wanted something to release Nigrescent material. We have kept the prices low too, as I originally intended to.

7.) If you could be part of any scene in the world, which scene would it be?
I'm not sure really. There seems to be good music coming out of a lot of different countries at the moment. Even though there is no real scene here, I like it here.

8.) What is so special about this country?
It's full of history and great scenery.

9.) What bands do you draw most of your influence from?
Burzum, Mortiis, Vond, Gorgoroth, Emperor, Kristallnacht, Arcturus, Seigneur Voland, Hate Forest, Vinterriket, Bilskirnir, Thunderbolt, Ulver and many more bands.

10.) What do you think of the following religions
(i) xianity
(ii) traditional satanism
(iii) laveyan satanism

Well, I don't think much of religion. Religion is a disease, just another way to control people.

11.) Give us a quick round up of the band, label futures plus contacts.
Information on the releases is available at www.totaldarkness.co.uk, you can also buy the releases from www.christcrusher.com and www.supernalmusic.com among other places.

12.) Any last words?
Thanks for the support!
