Forest of Castles is a relatively new project from the northern lands of the uk. Scotland hasnt had many black metal bands but here's an interview with one of the view who have risen.
1.) A brief synopsis of the projects history/contributing members/release history
Forest of Castles started in winter 2002/2003 because I was pissed off with different bands fucking about, being unreliable and ultimately just being stupid. So I decided to start a solo project giving me complete freedom to do whatever the hell I want with the music. I did have a session drummer for a short period in September 2003 but he was very unreliable.
All the songs for the first demo “Casgradh” have been written and it should be recorded after X-mas.
2.) Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music.
I have been inspired by many different genres of music. Mainly black metal of course. Immortal, Burzum, Slayer, Mike Oldfield & Old Dimmu Borgir have had a massive influence musically.
3.) Some specifics on your sound.
Forest of Castles has been described as “the next Burzum” which I hate because I’m not trying to copy anyone. I suppose it’s raw black metal with occasional melodic parts and keyboards at times.
4.) what does your music portray or represent?
I did not write most of the lyrics so that’s a bit of a difficult question. It’s like trying to get the person who wrote the lyrics to explain my guitar riffs.
5.) What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
Yeah, There are a lot of good bands appearing everywhere and I think that the Internet plays a big part in helping unknown or unsigned bands. It has helped me significantly since I first started "forest" and I have met a lot of underground/unsigned bands through it.
6.) What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
Well I’m already working on the new demo "Pargijakun Fushjalut" which will hopefully be recorded shortly after "casgradh". I also plan to arrange a live band so I may start gigging. That’s all I really have planned at the moment.
7.) Ask yourself one question you'd like to be asked and answer it.
