Interview conducted with Arawn, the Bassist of Australian heathen metal band Anwariad, Side project of established acts such as Dark Dominion and Nazxul.
1.) Could you give us a brief history of the band?
Anwariad formed in the year 2000. The heathens involved are Arawn (vocals/bass), Ankeu (guitars/atmosphere), Maddroc (guitars), Taranis (drums). At present there is no official releases apart from a rare rehearsal recording.
2.) Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music?
Our inspiration comes from the rich heritage and culture of the Celts. An extreme hatred for those of the judo-Christian faith and the immense pride in our cultural and mytho influences the music and imagery behind Anwariad.
3.) Some specifics on your sound?
Described as "Celtic Heathen Black Metal" we incorporate the obvious black metal sounds similar to bands such as Dark Throne, Burzum, Graveland, etc. The Celtic influence comes from the movement of traditional Celtic music that spans from depressive melancholy to uplifting inspirational supremacy.
4.) What does your music portray or represent?
Our music portrays the flame that burns inside every heathen Aryans soul. In some the flame burns stronger than others, though it is Anwariads aim to make this dwindling light burn as a raging fire. It represents the eternal battle for our creed and our racial identity against those that submit to the filthy sub-human plague of Christianity.
5.) What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
The underground is as strong as it has always been but merely has changed somewhat in the last five years. Now the use of electronic means such as the internet with webzines, websites, chatrooms, and emails make the circle of Black Metal sub culture even more larger.
6.) What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
In the immediate future we will be releasing our debut album called Vae Victis "woe to the defeated" which will be under the banner of Indomitus Productions. Soon after this is unleashed we will be looking into a tour of our vast homeland of Australia then planning to take our horde to Europe in December of 2002 where we will continue in battle and unite with old comrades.
