Osgiliath (15th November 2003)

Osgiliath is an unknown entity in the growing american underground scene, this interview is conducted witht he sole member on the 15th of november 2003.

1.) A brief synopsis of the projects history/contributing members/release history
Osgiliath, is a project that has been around since early 2000. But back then it was just dark ambient noise project, one small release, didn't sell many at all. Just 3 song cd. Ever since I first started I wanted to do a black metal project, but mastering each instrument is the hard part. But until recent, I (Count Osgiliath), have decided to use a session drummer, and a few appearances by a few musicians on recordings. The Winter of 2003 will bring a new strength to see if Osgiliath will last. Planning a cd demo release on Christcrusher Prods, still in the works, but I know it shall be pressed.

2.) Give some general thoughts on the inspiration behind the music.
Osgiliath inspiration is more fantasy based lyrics, with personal and cosmic reflect. Dark ambient sound, with drawn out dark lyrics. Few songs are about the history of Osgiliath, which is taken right from a Tolkein ruined city, that's west of Mordor. I'm not sure what the lyrics of the future shall bring, its becoming winter, a new year has begun, and I feel that this years Winter Solstice shall bring many influences to all.

3.) Some specifics on your sound.
Osgiliath sound is really going for a particular sound, but influences from Behemoth (sventevit album), Emperor (s/t), Satyricon (the shadowthrone), Graveland (thousand swords), Nargaroth (Herbstleyd), Darkthrone (under a funeral moon).

4.) what does your music portray or represent?
With Most everything that Osgiliath represents, is a fictional setting and journey. Can turn out to be a mystic look into the grim reality of Strength and Darkness.

5.) What is your opinion on the state of the underground situation?
Where I come from, the black metal scence is very very slim to none. Being that im from the States, the underground thing isn't Black Metal, but Punk/hardcore. Which isn't bad, the crowd is into anything underground, so black metal bands can play on the same bill as a hardcore band and the crowd likes it just as much. But that's not true to where-ever you go, which is true with any scence, there is always places where elitism comes into play and ruins everything.

6.) What is coming up for this project over the next 1-2 years?
Hopefully the release on Christcrusher. A few Cd comps, as many has I can send to, atleast. Winter is providing good time for recording, and writing, hopefully more shall be released. Regardless a label backing the band, there still will be releases. Osgiliath is just a solo project, but with a few members as session musicians, some are from an old blackmetal/grind I was in, and some are new.

7.) Thanks or taking the time to fill this out, any last words?
ruined it shall lay, forever and a day
til the time it is dust, and forgotten
rise, rise again the king he shall
reclaim his throne, and rule again

.................they become, they are, the Kings of Osgiliath

8.) Also, please provide website information, if applicable....
