Johan Huldtgren - Obitus (2001-2002)

This interview was originally conducted with Johan and Anders back in May 2001, but they were so drunk while they replied to it that the interview wasnt really worth reading. The interview has now been re-written by Johan with more informative answers

1.) Firstly Would You Tell us who you are and give us a short history of your Band for the people out there who haven't heard of you before.
Obitus is a studio project consisting of Anders Ahlbäck on guitars and myself (Johan Huldtgren) on vocals. We have been around since May 2000 and we released an MCD called "Coup De Grâce" in October of 2000, we then appeared on a 4-way split 'Gather Against Humanity' released in 2001. We have a full length more or less ready, just waiting to get in touch with the right label.

2.) Does the word Obitus mean anything?
It means death in Latin.

3.) Your Demo MCD Coup De Grace Had a quite graphic cover, which shows Hatred for humanity, is this the sole topic of your music? or is there more meaning behind it all?
No not really, all lyrics deal with hatred and contempt for all humans. That is the basis for it all. Then each track may focus on different aspects of this, but the bottom line is always the same.

4.) Seeing all this melodic death metal crap from sweden is normal, so it is a bit surprising to suddenyl hear a band like Obitus which is some of the most raw angry music i have ever heard, are there any other acts in sweden such as yourself which you are aware of??
Not really, as you said most of the stuff that's from Sweden, and Gothenburg in particular is melodic stuff; so, when I look for raw black metal I generally do not even think of looking for Swedish bands.

5.) would you say this is perhaps a reason Obitus has not been signed, as one wouldnt expect good raw bm from Sweden?
Well I guess that's possible, but seeing how many other bands they sign from this geographic area I don't really think that has anything to do with it; besides we've only spoken to a few labels yet, perhaps just the wrong ones

6.) you spend other time in some other bands, would you like to introduce us to these other projects??
We both play in a death/thrash band called Clonaeon (formerly known as Vaticide)

7.) You'll be appearing on a tribute in a few months to the black metal kings Mayhem, will Obitus be a band which will feature n compilations and such in the future, or will you be stepping back into the shadows of the underground?
Well depending on what opportunities arrise we might do some compilations. We are not big fans of tributes in general, so we will probably not to any more of those.

8.) And finally what are the plans for the future of Obitus?
A full-length is recorded and we have some work left on that, and then we just need to find a label that is interested.

9.) Also, please provide website information, if applicable....
www.obitus.org

It's not been updated in a long time now, but we are a bit in limbo right now,
waiting, trying to get a contract for the full length and all, but I try to update it as often as there is something relevant to tell.
